Where do you go to find these “hidden” jobs? You can learn about some through the Logan County WorkPlus One-Stop Center and others through your own network—the people you know, such as former co-workers, neighbors, classmates, fellow church and organization members and relatives.
Not coincidentally, about 80 percent of jobs are filled through networking with the people you know. And even if they aren’t aware of opportunities, they can introduce you to people they know who are in a position to know about new job opportunities. When you are looking for a job, do not keep it a secret. Start making contacts with people in your network, to let them know you’re in the job market—and specifically for what kind of work. This may not immediately yield results. But by knowing your situation, your friends and colleagues will be more likely to take note of job opportunities when they run across them. As you network, consider these tips:
