Medical Assistance

Through the Medicaid program, medical coverage is available to certain qualifying individuals and families with limited income.
Ohio Medicaid provides coverage to:
  • Families with children younger than age 19
  • Children younger than age 19
  • Pregnant women
  • Adults age 65 and older
  • People who are legally blind
  • People with disabilities

Medicaid provides coverage for doctor visits, hospital care, well-child visits, home health, long-term care and more. Some consumers covered by Medicaid may be required to pay monthly premiums or co-pays for certain services.

To qualify for coverage a person must be a U.S. citizen or meet Medicaid citizenship requirements, be an Ohio resident, have or obtain a Social Security number, and meet financial requirements.  In some cases, Medicaid limits resources an individual or family may have, such as bank accounts, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, trusts, vehicles and property.  A person’s home of residence, personal belongings and one vehicle usually are not counted in the resource limit.

To help prevent delays in the approval process bring the following to your appointment:
  • Identification, such as a driver's license
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate
  • Current mortgage or rent verification
  • Current utility bills
  • Verification of last 30 days of income
