Public Notice to the Residents of Logan County

To the Residents of Logan County:  The Logan County Department of Job & Family Services will hold a Title XX Public Hearing beginning at 9:00 am on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 211 East Columbus Avenue, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. The purpose of this hearing to provide opportunity for input as to the Social Service needs of Logan County and to review the agencies proposed plans for program year beginning on October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2022.

We want to encourage citizen participation in planning for public social services and, as such, you are cordially invited to attend this public hearing. Whether you are a member an advocacy group, an agency representative, or a Logan County citizen, your views and comments are important to our planning process. Should you desire to give testimony at the hearing, it is requested that you contact Cynthia L. Heffner, Logan County Job & Family Services at (937) 599-5165 so we may allow time for you. Written testimony may also be sent to either of the agencies listed above, please contact them for mailing address. If you do not desire to provide testimony, you are still encouraged to attend to see how the planning process works.

As social services agencies for YOU, we are looking forward to seeing you at the Public Hearing and, hopefully through our mutual effort, we can develop a meaningful plan for the citizens of Logan County.

Key Considerations in Writing Your Resume

The WorkPlus team will guide you in how to best present your experience and qualifications for the jobs you are seeking. And they can help you format your resume for traditional printing and online submission.

At least call on a WorkPlus career counselor to review and critique your resume before you send it out.

Here are other considerations:
  • Include a clear objective, stating which position you are seeking and a few key details about you and what you have to offer
  • Customize your resume for each type of job for which you are applying.  One resume does not fit all, as not all of your skills will apply equally to every job. Spotlight the skills and achievements that are most relevant to each positio
  • Use action verbs to describe your accomplishments, and keep your resume short and simple—one to two pages.
  • Ask someone to proofread your resume for typos and clarity. It’s easy to read past mistakes in something you’ve written.
  • Use professional resume paper. And never photocopy a copy of your resume; it will look unprofessional.
  • Make your contact information easy to find—at the top of the resume.

Tap into Your Network to Access the Hidden Job Market

Where do you go to find these “hidden” jobs? You can learn about some through the Logan County WorkPlus One-Stop Center and others through your own network—the people you know, such as former co-workers, neighbors, classmates, fellow church and organization members and relatives.

Not coincidentally, about 80 percent of jobs are filled through networking with the people you know. And even if they aren’t aware of opportunities, they can introduce you to people they know who are in a position to know about new job opportunities.

When you are looking for a job, do not keep it a secret. Start making contacts with people in your network, to let them know you’re in the job market—and specifically for what kind of work.

This may not immediately yield results. But by knowing your situation, your friends and colleagues will be more likely to take note of job opportunities when they run across them.

As you network, consider these tips:
  • Remember that networking is a two-way street. Be sure to help people in your network
  • Don’t only network when you’re looking for a job. Keep in touch regularly so your network doesn’t dry up
  • Send out thank you notes for advice and leads people give you—and keep them informed about your progress.
